Kassel overview

Kassel Travel Guide
Kassel is a green city nestled on the banks of the Fulda River. Due to the city’s annihilation during the WWII, Kassel was almost totally rebuilt in a post-war fashion. Currently, the inner part of the city is primarily dominated by huge banks and malls, with no old monuments left standing – such a discouraging reality for history buffs. However, there are some noteworthy attractions that can still be spotted here and they are located in the outskirts of the city. For instance, you can visit the nearby towering statue of Herkules and the Wilhelmshohe Palace. Moreover, close to these historical monuments is a large park where few sights worth mentioning can be found – including a Greek temple, medieval castle and Roman aqueduct. But don’t be too overjoyed at seeing these three spots, because they are just replicas and were built only a short time ago. For people looking for real stuff, they can head back to Wilhelmshohe to see the celebrated paintings of Rembrandt and Rubens.
