Heidelberg overview

Located at the banks of Neckar River, Heidelberg is nestled between two picturesque hills. The place is famous for its majestic Heidelberg Castle and 600-year-old University of Heidelberg, the oldest in the country. Be warned however that both historical landmarks are the main tourist draws of the city, so don’t be surprised if fleets of tour buses flock both sites during summers. If you are planning to use your personal car, leave it at a parking area on the city’s outskirt or you will go mad trying to find your way through Heidelberg’s narrow one-way streets. Today, the city caters heaps of university students and offers lively nightspots that make Heidelberg ideal for night owls as well. The city knows no curfew, with most bars open until the early morning. Although the locals, even the police, are already immune to drunken tourists, you still need to watch your behaviour while here.
