Hannover overview

Known as the ‘City of Trade Fairs’, Hannover hosts several huge exhibitions including CeBIT, the world’s biggest IT fair. Apart from expositions, Hannover has only few historical attractions to offer tourists. Hannover is not a classic European city, so don't expect too much to see centuries-old buildings here. Hannover was one of the most heavily bombed cities during WWII, leaving it with few standing historical landmarks. Even the ravaged old town centre of Hannover is new. A major drawback when travelling in Hannover is language. English is not commonly used here except during CeBIT or major international trade fairs. Moreover, English translation was only introduced to some tourist portals lately, such as train ticketing machines. However, you don’t need to worry. Germans, in general, are very helpful. Most university students in Hannover can also speak English fluently.
