Hamburg overview

Hamburg Travel Guide
Situated on the Elbe River, Hamburg is Germany’s foremost port city famous for several parks and old monuments. Travelling to Hamburg would never be complete without seeing the magnificent cathedrals of St Michael and St Jacob. Moreover, don’t forget to visit Hamburg’s exceptional Rathaus, a city hall supported by dozens of pillars. Tourists must also try to enjoy some of the city’s lively beer houses and to explore various parks downtown, including the Alster Lake. Lucky for water sports enthusiasts, swimming in the Alster Lake is not prohibited. Alster’s water is clean and it is only about five metres deep. Meanwhile, bathing in Elbe River is possible as well, but of course, you need to keep distance from the passageway of ships. Even expert swimmers can be affected by the water drift caused by any cruising sea vessel so be careful when taking to these waters.
