Frankfurt overview

Unlike any other city in Germany, Frankfurt is unashamedly packed with skyscrapers towering from the Rhine-Main basin and next to the restored old town. Frankfurt’s skyline is quite unique for the country, as its high rise buildings are concentrated in a rather small downtown area, giving Frankfurt the impression of a Manhattan wannabe. As a commerce capital, the city draws thousands of foreigners and locals from other German cities who settle here to work. The city has a rich collection of museums, theatres and opera houses – second only to Berlin’s. In nightlife too, especially when it comes to the dance and music scenes, Frankfurt is the capital’s only rival. Unfortunately, the city has one of highest crime rates in Germany and visitors should largely avoid going to Frankfurt’s red light districts, as these areas are among the favourite hangouts for drug dealers.
