Dortmund overview

Dortmund Travel Guide
Dortmund, the biggest city in Ruhrgebiet, once built its riches on steel, coal and beer. These days, the steel mills are abandoned, mines are closed and more advanced industries have taken over their place. Only the breweries were left operational as strong as ever, mixing out large quantities of tasty ale and beer – thanks to the drunkards. During WWII, Dortmund was heavily bombed by the Allies, ravaging over 93 per cent of the city's old centre. Although there's not much left in here in terms of old buildings, the city is still a pleasant place to visit. Meanwhile, trading has always been lively in the city. Its market is ideal for bargain shopping and is always packed with tourists. Moreover, it is in Dortmund’s Signal Iduna Park where the 2006 World Cup games were been played, making the city a perfect destination for any die-hard football fan.
